When I listen to these three young
artists, I reminisce about my university days back in the early 2000s, when myself
(Celobams), Slim (Bara Said), Hot Ice (Ferdinand Che), Supreme Skillz (Chris
Fonye), Dr. Sley, Ivy C (Asaba Claudette) and a host of others used to record
demo tracks in hostel rooms in Molyko using just a PC mic and Pentium 2
computer. Little could we have imagined the turn this whole music thing will take
just a few years after. Today am filled with glee to see the realization of
those small hip-hop dreams in people like Eyemass, Neglect and Roqzen. These three
artists to me are the Banso guys setting the pace within the Anglophone
showbiz culture after forerunners and big names like Jovi, Stanley, Blanche,
Tilla, Reniss and the others. They are without doubt artists we must support
and watch out for.
Eyemass is currently settled in
California, USA. His music career has recently gone mute and MIA for we've
not heard from him since he released "Vitavi" featuring Neglect & Roqzen. Before going MIA, Eyemass had made fans anticipate a single that he was to release entitled "Shalo" which up till now hasn't hit the ears of Anglophone hip hop lovers in Cameroon. Unfortunately, he has never highlight his
reasons for not making the release of the song or his complete absence from the music scene and social media as a whole. At the time of writing this article, I can't not independently or confidently say if this silence from Eyemass is a musical break or a complete quit from the game. Well, all the same, we hope that this silence of the artist is a sign that he is in the studios preparing to drop a stunning song in the near future.
Neglect is another name we should watch out for from Banso. We have and can recognise him through his hit banger tracks and several singles like "Aboloshi", "Fool for U" and "Mercy a God" (cover)
"Abolishi" is a song that sounded the name Neglect into my ears and for the very first time I listened to it, I immediately fell in love with it: 'you can say love at first ear yeah' hahhahahaha. Well, without blowing much of s trumpet on Neglect, "Abolishi" was to me the very first track in which I Heard well crafted rap verses in Lamsno and a delivery like no other before it. Though myself back in the day had incorporated a few Lamnso phrases in my rap lyrics, Neglect proved to me through his song that Lamnso could and is a wonderful language that could and should be used in rap by our Nso brothers. Prior to my listening to this song, i was caught in the negative illusion that Lamnso was so difficult to rap in. LOL, but this guy showed me otherwise. i presume with a lot of faith that Neglect is sure cooking something really delicious in terms of songs in the near future.
Without being the least among the three, Roqzen who also hails from Nso has not been known to have released an official single yet. This not withstanding, he has featured in Eyemass' "Vitavi" alongside Neglect. The lyrical prowess of Roqzen sure tells me of an artist who should be watched out for. M.I Abaga the Nigerian international rapper and Choc City boss recognizes this talent and endorses the young artist and holds that he sure is the next happening thing in 237 music arena. Roqzen is based in Buea and currently he is packaging "Woso" video which will be released not long from now and this will be his first official single.
