The December
1991 born Ntewa Maxcel N. better known by his artistic catchy name Snazzy
Shikena is sure a name that many are yet to get used to. Whether or not 237 Anglophone
hip hop community or the African music scenario likes it or not, Snazzy is sure
gone be a force to reckon with when it comes to rap and lyricism. The young
Anglophone upcoming rap guru captivates one’s musical sense as soon as the
beats for his tracks start rolling.
His strongest
asset is his ability to juxtapose Modern English with the spicy Cameroonian Pidgin
English like has never been heard before. By inserting catchy phrases from his
native language or vernacular, Snazzy Shikena espouses the African cultural
heritage that captures the Africanity we need to see in the songs written by and
recorded by Africans and most especially 237 Anglophone hip hop artists.
After listening
to a few of his freestyles and or demos, I have come to the realization and
satisfaction that the dreams I used to have about music in general and hip hop
in particular as a young university student are actually taking form and shape
in the persons and likes of Snazzy Shikena. The vibrancy of Snazzy’s lyrics and
the gusto of his rendition forces any listener to interact with his songs by simply
nodding the head or humming and dancing to the powerful beats that accompany
the groove.
As obviously
intimated in the preceding paragraphs, Snazzy Shikena is a song writer,
entertainer and performer whose love for the showbiz world will sure take him
to places yet to be discovered by 237 Anglophone Cameroon entertainment
industry. This multi-facetted young artist raps, sings and does dance hall with
the passion that all artists must imbibe. His versatility showcases to Africa and
the world that 237 Anglophone upcoming acts and or artist have a say in mapping
out the history and future of music in Africa and in the subcontinent.
Snazzy
Shikena confided to Kwata Vibes that rap is his specialty and that he does
music is his calling. He added that: “I do music because it's a call and I'm
more interested in living a legacy so I rap not just for the fame or money.” Also,
he précised that: “I wish to use my music to impact lives positively.” These words
from the artist carry with them a sense of focus that should preoccupy all 237
entertainers and showbiz actors. In this regard, we must strive to leave a
legacy, impact lives and instill in youths the dreams of making a change
through art or any other field in which we got talent.

RELEASES HOT NEW SINGLE: “VATAL”
“VATAL” is a
new vibe that carries with it a new kind of flow and style with it that sure
changes the face of the game in 237. Snazzy revealed to Kwata Vibes that “VATAL” is
an abbreviation that stands for ‘VERNACULAR ADAPTABLE TO ANY LANGUAGE’. After
deep musical research Snazzy Shikena holds that: “I'm bringing/introducing this
vernacular(which existed but was neglected) into the music industry.” He went
on to add that: “I want to make Cameroonians proud by valorizing yet another
vernacular/language they'll identify themselves with in the world just like Pidgin,
Franc-Anglais or Mboko there by giving them a unique identity.”
According to
Snazzy, aka Da Lion, his intention too is to show the diversity of his country
Cameroon by selling its linguistic culture through music worldwide. He however
acknowledged that: “for now it's just a style but I see it becoming a BRAND
someday.” With this new trend and hope of building something new, music lovers
in Cameroon, Africa and the world won’t be wrong to conclude that Snazzy
Shikena aka Da Lion is a young pioneer he is has taken a great leap in introducing
a new style/Vatal in the music and entertainment industry in Cameroon. Someday in the near future, we all will sure
say that this young upcoming artist is going to be a legend that the Cameroon music
world will be proud to identify with.
All we can
do now is to be expectant for releases from this young artist bursting with
talents and lyrics. Keeping moving young soldier, hit the studio and drop them
